Kyushu is the third largest island and most south-westerly of Japan four main islands (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu) .There are seven prefectures located there: Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Nagasaki, Oita, and Saga. Kyushu’s must visit spots are Mt.Aso, Kumamoto Castle, and Kyushu is blessed with many hot springs such as Beppu Onsen, Yufuin Onsen, Kurokawa Onsen, Kirishima Onsen, Ureshino Onsen, and Takeo Onsen. JR Kyushu offer 2 types of Rail pass which is All Area Kyushu Pass and North Kyushu Pass. The All Kyushu Area pass is valid on all JR Kyushu lines. This pass unlimited train travel on 3, or 5 consecutive days.

EXCHANGE COUPON DELIVERY OPTION

  • A delivery and handling charge will apply ($8.00 for Toll Express Mail, or $20.00 for Toll Courier). Delivery can take up to 3 working days from the date of issue. You will be notified by email when your exchange coupon has been sent out.   
  • Delivery can only be made within Australia to a residential street address or business street address. Deliveries cannot be made to a PO box address.  
  • Courier requires a signature upon delivery. Please provide a street address where you will be during normal business hours. If unable to sign for the delivery, please select DX mail option or a pick up option.

EXCHANGE COUPON PICKUP OPTION

  • Once you have ordered your Pass online, a JTB staff member will notify you when your exchange coupon is ready for collection. You can collect it from either:-

    • JTB Melbourne Office: 
      Level 6, 31 Queen Street

  • If you are departing within 7 days, please call us so we can advise the best method of delivery. 
  • Any orders purchased directly over the counter will attract a $10 fee.  

RAIL PASS ELIGIBILITY

  • Only travellers who are visiting Japan under the entry status of ‘Temporary Visitor’, and have a passport bearing this stamp can use this pass. Please note that according to strict interpretation of the Japanese Immigration Law, ‘Temporary Visitor’ status differs even from other types of stays that are also for only short time periods.
  • Japanese passport holders cannot use this pass. However in the rare case when travellers have dual passports (Japanese & other), unless your valid non Japanese passport is stamped with ‘Temporary Visitor’, issuance of JR pass will be refused.

EXCHANGE IN JAPAN

  • You require an exchange coupon in final documentation before departing Australia, as you will need to exchange this for your actual Rail Pass in Japan. Your exchange coupon must be exchanged within 3 months from when the exchange coupon is issued. 
  • The exchange order is valid for three months from the date of issue. You must exchange it in Japan at a valid exchange office within these three months in order to receive your actual Pass. If you fail to make the exchange within the three months your exchange coupon will no longer be valid and you will be able to receive the actual Pass. 
  • To exchange date of the pass, once the pass has been obtained, can no longer be changed.
  • The voucher must be exchanged within a 3-month period from the date of issue.
  • To exchange the voucher for the Pass you will need your passport.
  • The start date of the Pass can no longer be changed once the pass has been exchanged.
  • JR Exchange Offices (Offices and service hours are subject to change or discontinuation without notice).
    • Hakata Station Travel Service Center, weekdays from 10AM to 8PM, weekends until 6PM. Ticket Office daily from 5:30AM to 11PM
    • Hakata Port International Terminal, JR Kyushu Beetle Counter, daily from 9AM to 6PM
    • Fukuoka International Airport Terminal 1F, Travel Information Center
    • Kokura Station Travel Service Center, weekdays from 10AM to 7PM, weekends until 6PM
    • Mojiko Station Travel Service Center, daily from 10AM to 6PM
    • Kumamoto Station Travel Service Center, weekdays from 10AM to 7PM, weekends until 5:30PM
    • Saga Station Travel Service Center, weekdays from 10AM to 7PM, weekends until 5PM
    • Nagasaki Station Travel Service Center, weekdays from 10AM to 7PM, weekends until 5:30PM
    • Oita Station Travel Service Center, weekdays from 10AM to 7PM, weekends until 5PM
    • Beppu Station Travel Service Center, daily from 10AM to 6PM

RAIL PASS VALIDITY

  • The valid period of these passes are 3, 5, day consecutive days once exchanged in for actual pass in Japan. 
  • After exchange in Japan, the starting date written on the Rail Pass cannot be changed.
  • Sightseeing destinations that can be reached with the All Kyushu Area pass include: 
    • Misumi, Hitoyoshi, Kagoshima, Kirishima,  Ibusuki, Miyazaki
  • Shinkansen bullet train rides allowed between Hakata and Kagoshima-cho

     

SEAT RESERVATIONS

  • You cannot make seat reservations until you have exchanged the Pass in Japan.
  • In order to travel in first class (Green cars) you will have to pay additional fees. Non-reserved Ordinary class cars can be accessed freely.
  • To access the platforms, show your Pass to the JR Kyushu staff located at the gate to the platform.
  • To reserve a seat, ask the JR Kyushu staff at the the ticket office.

EXCHANGE COUPON CANCELLATION

  • An exchange coupon can be refunded within 1 year of purchase. A 20% cancellation fee will be charged PLUS a non refundable deposit of $110 which can be held in credit for 12 months. Any credit card surcharge is non refundable. Please note that if you have exchanged the Pass in Japan, the ticket is non-changeable and non-refundable.
  • You will need to send the original exchange coupon back to the office of purchase for a refund. 

EXCHANGE COUPON RE ISSUE

  • A re-issue fee of $45 per amendment plus any delivery and credit card surcharges will apply ($8-Toll Express Mail, $20-Courier) only once the original exchange coupon has been sent back to the office of purchase. Neither an exchange coupon nor a Japan Rail Pass can be reissued if lost or stolen.
  • Departure date amendment attracts a $10 fee.

  • Sightseeing destinations that can be reached with the Northern Kyushu Area Pass include:
    • Shimonoseki, Mojiko, Kokura, Hakata, Yufuin, Beppu, Oita, Kumamoto, Aso, Saga, Nagasaki, Huis Ten Bosh, Sasebo
  • Shinkansen bullet train rides allowed between Hakata and Kumamoto

  • With the Pass, no additional fee is required when reserving seats.
  • In order to travel in first class (Green cars) you will have to pay additional fees. Non-reserved Ordinary class cars can be accessed freely.
