Enjoy Japan’s natural beauty & sacred spots. Kamikochi is a remote mountainous highland in the western part of Nagano prefecture, which has been preserved in its natural state. It has been designated as one of Japan’s National Cultural Assets. Koyasan registered as the world heritage titled “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Route in the Kii Mountain Range”. Explore the sacred site 900 meters high above where you can find temples pagodas towers, Buddha statues and mandalas. Enjoy the natural beauty and history of these remote areas of Japan!

Tokyo – Takayama
Travel by Shinkansen bullet train to Nagoya and change trains to the JR Limited Express for Takayama using your Japan Rail Pass.
Points of interest here include Takayama Jinya (National Historic Relic, The Takayama Local Agency of the Tokugawa government), San-machi Traditional Building Preservation Area, Hida Folklore Village, Hida Takayama Matsuri-no-mori (Art & Festa Forest). Accommodation in Takayama for 1 night.

Takayama – Kamikochi
Leave your large luggage at your Takayama accommodation (holding fees may apply).Go to the Nohi Bus Terminal located next to Takayama Station and purchase a ticket to Kamikochi. Take the Nohi Bus from Takayama station to Hirayu Onsen (60mins) then a bus from Hirayu Onsen to Kamikochi Bus Terminal (25mins). Once arriving at Kamikochi go to the ‘Kamikochi Sight Seeing Centre’ where you can pre purchase your ticket back to Takayama. Kamikochi Onsen Hotel is approx a 20minute walk from the Bus Terminal.

Kamikochi – Takayama
This morning make your way back to Takayama where you have the entire day free. Points of interest here include World Heritage listed Shirakawa-go, famous for their traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses, some of which are more than 250 years old. Accommodation in Takayama for 1 night.

Takayama – Osaka
Travel by JR Limited Express to Nagoya and change to the Shinkansen bullet train to Shin-Osaka using your Japan Rail Pass. Entire day free to explore Osaka. Accommodation in Osaka for 1 night.

Osaka – Mt Koya
Join Koyasan 2-Day tour with local guide. Take local train and cable car to Koyasan. Enjoy a Japanese style-vegetarian lunch. After lunch visit Okuno-in Temple, lined with hundreds of thousands of small stone pagodas, Danjogaran Complex, a sacred place representing the concept of Shingon Mikkyo Buddism established by Kobo Daishi. Over night at Fukuchi-in Temple Shukubo (lodging). Japanese-style vegetarian meal for dinner and enjoy the onsen hot springs.

Mt Koya – Osaka
Before breakfast, you will have the option to participate in the Buddhist morning chants early morning. Free day to explore Koya Yamauchi. Make your way back to Osaka.
