SOUTH JAPAN EXPRESS 6 DAYS

DAY 1 THU. Osaka

Transfer to hotel and free time.

DAY 2 FRI. Osaka – Himeji – Engyo-ji – Okayama

Visit Himeji castle, a castle regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japan castle architecture. Then take a cable car trip up Mount Shosha where there is the Engyoji temple complex  with over a thousand years of history where the film “The last Samurai” was shot. Lunch included at a local restaurant. Onto Okayama and visit Korakuen, one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan, with its lakes, waterfalls and traditional teahouses.

DAY 3 SAT. Okayama – Kurashiki – HiroshimaItsukushima – Hiroshima

We leave for Kurashiki, a city with a very well preserved historical centre. Time for a stroll in this charming place with its atmosphere from the past. Continue onto Hiroshima to visit the Peace Memorial Park and then onto Miyajima Island.

DAY 4 SUN. Hiroshima – Matsuyama.

Today take a ferry to Shikoku Island on a pleasant crossing that lasts two hours and a half and see the many islands that make up Japan. In Matsuyama take the cable car up to its impressive castle. Afterwards visit Ishiteji, a beautiful Buddhist temple and a place of pilgrimage. Lunch is included today. In the late afternoon visit Dogo Onsen a traditional Japanese bath facility built in the 19th century.

DAY 5 MON. Matsuyama – KotohiraTakamatsu – Naruto – Kobe

Travel to Kotohira a Shinto shrine dedicated to the God of sailors and a place of pilgrimage. The shrine stands on Mount Zozu and is reached by climbing 785 steps. Afterwards in Takamatsu visit Ritsurin, one of the prettiest gardens in Japan. Lunch is included today. Then in Naruto cross an impressive bridge over the sea, stopping on the way to admire the construction and walk on its glass floor with the sea 45 metres below us. The road is surrounded by beautiful scenery and then crosses long bridges between islands over the sea. Overnight in Kobe city.  

DAY 6 TUE. Kobe – Osaka.

After visiting the Earthquake Memorial Museum in the morning the tour will conclude.
