Arashiyama
Arashiyama is in the western outskirts of Kyoto, considered as one of the most famous sightseeing spots amongst both Japanese and overseas tourists. The main shopping street and the famous Togetsu-kyo Bridge over the River Katsura are considered as the centre of Arashiyama. Things to do in Arashiyama: Bamboo Grove, Tenryu-ji, Okochi-Sanso Villa and etc.
Kinkakuji Temple
Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion) is one of the most famous temples in Kyoto and has been placed on the World Heritage list of UNESCO. The center of the temple complex is a golden building standing above a large pond. The building has a very unique structure as each floor demonstrates a different architectural style. The top two floors of this building are covered with gold foil to show off the prosperity of the era when it was first built. However, the original temple was burned down by one of the apprentice monks in 1950 and was reconstructed in 1955.
Fushimi Inari Shrine
Fushimi Inari Shrine is located in the southern part of Kyoto. This shrine is the head of thousands of Inari “branch” shrines across Japan. “Inari” is the Shinto god of rice in Japanese culture. Foxes are believed as the messengers of the god Inari. As a result, you can see many fox statues on the shrine grounds. The "Senbon Torii" (thousands of red gates) is one of the most classic and stunning sights that you can find in the entire country. This unique view has made Fushimi Inari Shrine as the most popular tourist spot in Kyoto.
