How magnificent!

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Dear Olivia,

Could you please pass the message on to Takeda San.

The taxis were waiting for us at the right time at Toya Station, the weather was brilliant, the scenery was magnificent and the accommodation (Kohantei) was superb. We all tried the onsen and some of us were able to sit in the rotemburo and gaze out across the lake at Yoteizan. How magnificent! We were all tired out from all the walking we did yesterday (some walked about 20kms) exploring the various walking trails in the area. We could have spent another day there.

Thank you very much for all the organisation especially the taxis at the last minute and insisting on sending us to Kohantei.

The weather tomorrow (Friday 13th May) will be cold with a maximum of 7 degrees, but we are all prepared for that. Today is a rest day in Obihiro, although most of the group have gone out exploring as soon as we checked in. We have a very genki group.

Also it looks as though the Sakura will be following us around. It was in full bloom in Hakodate, and is just coming into bloom in this area.

Thank you for all your organisation. With a start like that, the rest of the trip will be magnificent I’m sure.

Kindest Regards,

Lorraine

This is a great time to go.

Dear Ryoko,

I have just returned from an exciting and blissfully indulgent holiday in Japan. I was overwhelmed by its beauty, its cultural richness, its varied, delicious and healthy cuisine, by the remarkable efficiency with which everything ran, and by the exceptional level of service and the generous hospitality of the Japanese people.

Japan is extremely safe, with the only damage from the earthquake (for which the country is well prepared) and tsunami confined to a relatively small area and not affecting the rest of the country at all. Obviously, potential visitors have been deterred by the irresponsible manner in which the media describe events confined to a small area as though they affect the whole country. This nonsense has been added to by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs recommendations, left in place long after other countries had removed their warnings.

I was fortunate that there were so few tourists, so there were no crowds. The added advantage was the cheap rates. This is a great time to go.

All aspects of the trip ran with smooth efficiency, thanks to the skilled and professional organisation by JTB, who drew up a varied and fascinating itinerary making the experience the holiday of a lifetime.

This was my first visit. It will not be my last as I look forward to returning there as soon as possible.

Home after a fantastic trip to Japan

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Hi Clem
We are back home after a fantastic trip to Japan and a bus tour of Taiwan. Everything worked exactly as planned. First let us compliment you on the level of accommodation chosen for us. The Nagoya’s “Marriott Associa Hotel”, once we found it, was very up market for our normal level, the Matsumoto “Tokyu Inn” was satisfactory and the Ryoken in Yudanaka was an extremely pleasant experience even though we only stayed at the “Biyu-No-Yado” for only one night, as they had no other guests they closed the Ryoken for maintenance and moved us to other Ryoken where the accommodation and food was just as excellent, unfortunately we never found out the name of this Ryoken as nobody could speak English and only Japanese identification was evident. The Takayama Ryoken “Hotakasu Yamano Iori” was not as spectacular as the other two but more than satisfactory. From there on the Quality of accommodation in Kanazawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka was of a great standard.

Your recommendations of sightseeing and transport option were excellent. We did improvise some train travel and incorporated more stops particular a Cherry Blossom stop in Hikone and Himejei. Travel by train was on the whole easy except getting lost in the huge station like Nagoya and the Osaka subway system. On our arrival at the Nagoya Station, it was late evening, we got hopelessly lost and only through numerous enquiries did we found the Marriott hotel. The following day our tour guide, Sumiko Fukami, gave us an orientation tour of the station even though it was not on our itinerary and way past her tour time. This basically set the tone of the whole trip, every time we were lost or looked confused somebody was always ready to help even with the language barrier. A good example I like to recall: we decided to take the train from Yudanaka to Takayama via Nagano, Naoetsu, and Toyama. The Journey through the mountains was fantastic and once we arrived in Naoetsu the conductor from the previous train made sure we were at the right platform and than shepherded us to a warm waiting room and only than did he leave us.

Japan is a country of Temples, Shrines, Castles, Fantastic Landscapes, Cherry blossoms, Beautiful Customs and History. We thank you for giving us the opportunity to experience this extraordinary country and welcoming people.

The shortage of tourists made our trip even more memorable as we were often the only foreigners in restaurants and at sightseeing spots, however the opposite is true for Taiwan which is being over run by main land Chinese whose behaviour of pushing and very loud behaviour is opposite to the more refined Japanese people behaviour.

One note of something you were probably not aware of, the Free Novotel Shuttle bus in Taipei does not operate between midnight and 6:05, we just had to wait for over an hour for the shuttle.

The Taiwan bus tour was well conducted and delivered everything its promised but after our own sightseeing in Japan it came a bit of a shock by the tour leader always pushing and given time limits on sightseeing some times not even enough time to take a decent photo. Such are group tours.

I am starting to ramble on so to close off again we are very glad we did visit Japan and maybe one day in the future we are able to see more of the fascinating country and helpful friendly people.
Thank You Clem and JTB.
Many Regards
Erich & Rebecca

We are so impressed by your high level of customer service.

Hi Olivia,

THANK YOU so much for your efforts on our behalf on our plans for a holiday in Japan. We are so impressed by your high level of customer service. You acted so promptly to each query we had. Firstly, you stepped in and helped with some changes we needed to make on our 1st attempt to travel back in November 2010, after Ichiro had gone on leave. Then, of course, you arranged the refund when we unexpectedly needed to cancel.

Jump to 2011 and we’re back again on a 2nd attempt, with travel due to start next week, before the terrible disaster hit Japan. Again, you arranged the refund after this cancellation. Working at a part of Qantas means that I work with many staff who travel a lot . . . I had several people very interested in hearing about our “experience” in Japan. I’m quite sure that they would have followed my plans and booked their Staff Travel, and then separately arranged the land content. I was asked several times who I had booked with and how was my experience. Olivia, I have no hesitation in recommending both you and JTB to any work friends who may wish to visit Japan in the future. It may be some time off, however, Richard, Genevieve and I absolutely still want to visit Japan.

Regards,

Stella

Kyoto was too cool.

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Hey!

I haven’t once experience black out / food shortage or even train stopped. I have no idea where these incident occurs!? Def not Tokyo.
And I am so glad I wasn’t just doing Tokyo for 2 weeks – gosh! I liked the other city more!
Kyoto was too cool. It’s just the current world and the world in the movies back in the days which as a tourist you wanna see in one go! And the only thing that connects the 2 worlds was 1 bridge across to Gion and back to OPA shopping side.

We made the Welcome to Spring Kiyomizu lighting at night festival! It was sooo pretty!

I will continue to talk to Client about this Japan Holiday of theirs for another few weeks

Fantastic Service

Friday, April 1st, 2011
Hello Tony,

I am writing to let you know how happy my wife and I are with JTB and especially Yuichi Tamura. We have worked with Yuichi and JTB for the last couple of overseas holidays and have always been impressed with his professionalism and responsiveness and that of JTB.

We leave tomorrow for our annual Europe and Japan holiday and Yuichi has been especially flexible given the tragic events in Japan. We look forward to using JTB and working with Yuichi for many years to come. It is not often excellent service is provided nowadays but we have always experienced this with Yuichi.

Kind regards,

David & Anne

I will definitely use JTB in the future

Please be advised that I wish to commend the customer service that I received from a member of your organisation.
I made some bookings through a travel agency that did in no way make me feel that they were working in my best interest, or even working pro-actively to help me make the best choices.

I ended up being charged quite heavily for travel amendments but researched my options and finally booked what was to be a wonderful trip for the three of us.
So very sadly the poor people of Japan experienced the dreadful tsunami that devastated so many lives and the proposed holiday that we had planned.
I was awaiting a refund from JTB when my travel agency advised that unless I paid in full for my new travel by Friday, it would be cancelled. I asked if we could contact JTB to query the refund date and possibility of processing it quickly to avoid further cancellations. The travel agent replied that this was not an option and that my refund may not even be processed before I travelled in mid April let alone in time to cover the new charges.

I decided that I would in fact call JTB myself. I spoke to Melina who listened to my story and looked up my booking for me. She told me that my booking had been made by my agent through Melbourne and put me on hold. I completely expected for her to transfer me to an operator in Melbourne but instead she came back on the line to tell me that my refund had been approved and processed as a cheque, due to my circumstances she had spoken to the relevant Accounts person and had the refund changed to a direct payment back to my travel agent. She was well spoken, very helpful and very efficient. Not only did she sort this issue out for me in a short time, but she also called me back shortly after to advise that it had all been done.
Thank you Melina, you have been a ray of sunshine through a very difficult time.
I will definitely use JTB in the future, but I will deal with you directly.
Regards,
Samantha

We really enjoyed it

Lily

This just a quick thank you for arranging the trip to Mount Fuji on Thursday 10 March at such late notice (I called you from Sydney airport on March 1 literally just as we were boarding to change the date from the 9th March). We just wanted to let you know that the trip to Mt Fuji was great and we really enjoyed it and will be recommending it to our friends.

It was the last day before the tragic earthquake. We were in Tokyo station (kitchen street) during the earthquake and whilst it was prettry scary we were lucky compared to so many others. I have to say that we were so impressed with and grateful to the Japanese people who helped us and were concerned for our welfare despite their own problems. The way that everyone handled the situation was also very impressive.

We also hope that your family were safe and well

Thank you again Lily

Gary and Michelle

The service we received from JTB was outstanding.

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Good morning JTB people

We are now all safely back in Australia and we wish to express our thanks for all the assistance given to us whilst travelling Japan recently. Due to the devastating earthquake and subsequent problems it was necessary for us to change our travel plans.

The service we received from JTB was outstanding- within an hour of cancelling the remainder of our trip to Mt Fuji and Tokyo, JTB guide came to our hotel and assisted us greatly. In consultation with your office and our travel agent in Melbourne all necessary arrangements were made for alternative accommodation and a tour at Hiroshima.

Ms Murai was an excellent guide and we really enjoyed our visit to Shirakawago – complete with lots of snow.

During our trip we have phone calls to JTB, and when alternative arrangements were finalised they forwarded a very detailed fax to our hotel with all the arrangements including train travel that would be required plus location maps – fantastic service.

We would also like to add that Ms Furutani was a wonderful guide at Hiroshima, her knowledge of the area and her friendly manner ensured we had a great day with her. The bus provided and the professional driver added to our enjoyment of the day. We were thrilled with our changed itinerary and the choice of Hiroshima.

There must have been hundreds of travellers in similar positions to ourselves and the volume of work must have been daunting. Everything was handled in such a professional and friendly manner.

We are very, very grateful and thank you all most sincerely. We would appreciate if our thanks could be particularly forwarded to Marie, Ms Murai and Ms Furutani (plus the bus driver).

JTB certainly turned what could have been a worrying time for us trying to find alternative accommodation/tours into a very pleasant and smooth operation.

Our accommodation and tours throughout all our time in Japan was excellent and our tour guides/drivers were freindly, professional and proficient at their jobs – they all certainly knew their area very well and were able to give us a wealth of knowledge. The hotels were of a very high standard and comfortable.

Congratulations on a job well done and sincere thanks to everyone concerned

We were very impressed

Ling and I were very impressed with the way Zao Kokusai Hotel looked after us during the recent earthquake and subsequent days. Their professionalism and calm were wonderful. Even without power we still received breakfast and dinner as well as maintaining a high level of service throughout. I am sure that many would rather have been at home with their families during this difficult time, but this did not show at all. They were always helpful and tried to make sure that we were comfortable and kept us up to date with what was happening as best they could, given out lack of Japanese language. They all deserve recognition for this.

Thanks
Chris

Just wanted to personally thank you

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Dear Tony and Olivia,

Just wanted to personally thank you for organising the new travel arrangements including a meet and greet at Nagoya Airport.

Without your quick action and understanding of the situation we wouldn’t have been able to have achieved this outcome.

Thanks again.

Kind regards,

Melissa

It was greatly appreciated

Hi Melina,

Thanks again for the itinerary and info it was greatly appreciated.
If I could offer one bit of constructive criticism though.
The shuttle system seems to work best from narita-hakuba as our trip home involved shuttle-bus-train-train which as it looks simple on paper with ski gear and luggage (it’s very hard to travel light with ski gear), the trains dont really offer storage for gear as it’s only above head luggage mostly and when it doesnt fit you have to jam it in front of you (we were lucky with bullet train though as there was a spare seat in front of us but I noticed others having to sit in one carriage and leave there other luggage 3 carriages behind unattended). Also the train-train transfer is farely cumbersome too as there is a fair bit of walking involved.
I have travelled a fair bit abroad with backpack and all but you seem to pack differently with ski trips which leads too not walk friendly travel gear.
Reality is that a 5hr shuttle from narita is one journey as opposed to the other and I think it is a smoother transition.
In saying this it has not dejected one bit of my trip and the bullet train was superfun!!!
Thanks again melina and YOU WILL be contacted again.
