◇Okinawa World (Duration of stay: about 120 minutes)
A tourist facility where you can fully experience Okinawa's nature, entertainment, and culture. Gyokusendo, a limestone cave, was said to have formed from a coral reef about 300,000 years ago; "Ryukyu Kingdom Castle Town" with a beautiful townscape designated National Tangible Cultural Property. There is also a hands-on crafts experience, "Habu Museum Park," with the theme of Habu, a poisonous snake that lives in Okinawa, and the "Super Eisa," filled with the charm of folk performing arts, is performed daily.
* There are no guided lectures at "Gyokusendo," "Tropical Fruit Garden," and "Ryukyu Kingdom Castle Town."
◇Okinawa Peace Memorial Park & Cornerstone of Peace (Duration of stay: about 60 minutes)
It was completed on Mabuni Hill in 1995, a memorial to the 50th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Okinawa to convey Okinawa's "spirit of peace" to the world. A row of stone monuments bears the names of all those who died in the Battle of Okinawa, regardless of nationality, military or non-military. However, it is not limited to those who died in Okinawa only but is dedicated to all those who have died in the war.
◇Himeyuri monument and Yubido (lunch) (Duration of stay: about 80 minutes)
The Himeyuri Students (Lily Princesses Student Corps) was mobilized by the Japanese Army in March 1945, consisting of 320 female students from the women's division of the regular school and assigned to the Haebaru Army Field Hospital as exceptional nurses. It is said that they continued to work as nurses in a narrow trench that was constantly soaked with groundwater, from cooking to burying corpses. Those 17~18-year-old students were working under challenging circumstances, hungry and exhausted. As the troops went south, casualties began to appear among them. The cave near the tower is where the Third Department of Surgery was located, and it was impossible to go out even one step. About 200 lives were lost in suicides and the poisonous gas attack by the US military. The Himeyuri monument enshrines 211 female students and 16 staff members whose lives were taken away and consoles the spirits of the dead.
